Wladimir Evgenjewitsch Korepin ( Russian Владимир Евгеньевич Корепин , English transcription Vladimir Korepin ; born February 6, 1951 ) is a Russian mathematical physicist .

Korepin made his diploma in theoretical physics in 1974 and received his doctorate in 1977 under Ludwig Faddejew at the University of Leningrad ( quantum gravity ). In 1985 he completed his habilitation (Russian doctorate). He was at the Steklov Institute in Leningrad until 1989 and has been a professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (SUNY) since the 1990s .

In his diploma thesis he discovered independently of Martinus Veltman and Gerardus' t Hooft that the ultraviolet divergences in the first order perturbation theory (one-loop approximation) of quantum gravity cancel each other out on the mass shell .

He then dealt with integrable models in quantum field theory (e.g. massive thirring model), mathematical physics (Sine-Gordon equation, nonlinear Schrödinger equation, etc.) and statistical mechanics and solid-state physics (including 6-vertex model, Hubbard model , anyons , Lieb-Liniger model of the Bose gas in one dimension). He also deals with quantum information theory and quantum entanglement (entanglement entropy in various models of quantum statistics).

In 1996 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .
