Vladimir Nikitich Vinogradov ( Russian Владимир Никитич Виноградов * 12 . Jul / 24. March  1892 greg. In Yelets ; † 29. July 1964 in Moscow ) was a Russian doctor and longtime personal physician of Josef Stalin .

Life

Vinogradov was born in Jelez, the son of a railway worker. After attending high school, he began studying medicine at Moscow University, graduating in 1907. While still a student he took part in the Russo-Japanese War as a volunteer and was awarded the Order of St. George, 4th grade , for his bravery .

From 1929 he was department head at the Moscow Medical Institute No. 1 and from 1934 advisor to the Ministry of Health of the USSR . In 1943 he became head of the Kremlin's health administration and thus the personal doctor of Josef Stalin and the closest Soviet leadership.

In November 1952, Vinogradov was arrested in response to the alleged " medical conspiracy ". In addition to spying for the American and British secret services, he was charged with murdering Andrei Zhdanov . After Stalin's death, he was released on April 4, 1953. In his secret speech at the 20th party congress of the CPSU in 1956, Nikita Khrushchev named the arrest of Vinogradov as an example of Stalin's abuse of power.

Vinogradov was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery.

Honors

Vinogradov was a hero of socialist labor , a five-time holder of the Order of Lenin and a holder of the Order of the Red Labor Banner . In 1969 he was posthumously awarded the State Prize of the USSR .
