history

Leo Leontowitsch Gorbatschow, operator of a vodka distillery in St. Petersburg , fled with his family from their Russian homeland to Berlin during the October Revolution , where he received permission to produce vodka on April 28, 1921. The brand name, the characteristic onion dome bottle and the blue label were registered as trademarks by L. Gorbatschow & Co. in 1923. At first, Wodka Gorbatschow was mainly bought by the Russian exile community in Berlin, but the brand was only known beyond the city limits in the early 1950s under the new owner Arthur Barth. In 1960 Söhnlein Rheingold KG acquired the majority of the company and began marketing it nationwide - since 1975 under the slogan Des Wodkas pure soul .
