Sonnenhof residential complex

The Sonnenhof residential complex is a monument complex in the Berlin district of Friedrichsfelde in the Lichtenberg district . It was created in the early 1920s.

history

The settlement company town and country commissioned in the 1920s, the architect Erwin Anton Goodchild with planning for the residential complex Sonnenhof that from 1926 to 1927 in the closed block development in reinforced concrete manner was built. The residential complex is located on Marie-Curie-Allee 62–90 (even), Delbrückstrasse 9–15 (odd), Archenholdstrasse 56–86 (even) and Bietzkestrasse 6–12 (even). The buildings, staggered into three or four floors , originally had small hatch-like skylights that were slightly recessed . There were also shops on the first floor.

Between 1972 and 1973, the residential complex was increased as part of the GDR's modernization program by extending the attic , whereby instead of the original 260 apartments, there are now 333 in the Sonnenhof complex.

In 2003 a memorial plaque was placed on the east double entrance.

architecture

The street-side exterior facade is clearly structured horizontally with clinker strips and in-situ concrete . The white plastered surfaces in between form coherent bands around the entire house ensemble with the fitted rectangular and white-framed lattice windows . The corner buildings at the crossroads are lively structured by recesses and balconies placed in the corners. The entrances to the residential buildings of the residential complex are located in rectangular niches that are lifted out by ceiling panels made of exposed concrete . The passages to the residential courtyard are also designed with exposed concrete. On the simpler courtyard side there are balconies. In Archenholdstrasse, a kindergarten is integrated into the perimeter block development, which extends into the inner courtyard. There is also a green area in the inner courtyard.
