Wojciech Dankowski

Wojciech Dankowski (also: Adalbert Dankowski ; * around 1760 in Greater Poland ; † around 1836) was a Polish violinist , church musician and composer .

Live and act

Wojciech Dankowski, who called himself Danek for short in his early compositions, was a member of the Cistercian chapel of Obra Monastery from 1779 , where he possibly also received his musical training. From 1787 to 1790 worked as Kapellmeister at Gnesen Cathedral . From 1792 he was under Józef Elsner , first violist of the Lemberg Theater Orchestra , where he was recorded at least until 1795. Afterwards he worked as a musician in Poznan , this was mentioned in the dedication of a now lost composition for the local cathedral. According to Elsner, he is said to have corresponded with the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house at the beginning of the 19th century . His works were particularly widespread in Greater Poland, Krakow, Vilnius and Kremenec (Ukraine).
