Wolf-Rainer Lowack

Wolf-Rainer Lowack (* 1956 in Erlangen ) is a graduate social scientist and was managing director of the Rhein-Neckar Metropolitan Region GmbH and the Zukunft Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar Association as well as chairman of the foundation from March 1, 2012 until the beginning of his retirement on August 1, 2016 Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region . Lowack held both positions between 2006 and 2008 before taking over the management of global executive planning and development at the BASF Group.

After studying at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , Lowack first worked as a management trainer at Rank Xerox , then as a personnel officer at Krupp . In 1990 he joined the Ludwigshafen chemical group BASF , where he quickly worked his way up from the seminar leader to middle management. Between 1998 and 2001 Lowack was Head of Human Resources at BASF Asia Pacific Ltd. in Hong Kong . After returning to the company's headquarters in Ludwigshafen, he initially headed education and from 2003 was Senior Vice President for Recruitment and Development.

He was the initiator of the much-respected BASF training association, through which additional training positions were made possible in the region in cooperation with around 250 partner companies.

Wolf-Rainer Lowack worked closely with the former Vice Chairman of the Board of Management of BASF, Eggert Voscherau , who is considered the "engine of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region". In July 2006, Lowack was released from his obligations at BASF for the first time in order to be able to push ahead with the design of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region . He was instrumental in setting up the nationwide unique regional development structure, which has since been supported with great success by business, science, politics and administration.

Lowack is married and has three children.
