Wolfgang Hefter (born August 22, 1949 ) is a former German football player who played second division football in Schwedt / Oder in the GDR league .

Athletic career

After the 1972/73 season, the company sports community (BSG) Aufbau Schwedt rose from the third-rate district league to the GDR league. The 24-year-old Wolfgang Hefter, who scored 23 of the 107 goals of the BSG and thus became the top scorer for both his team and the district league, played a decisive role in this success. In the first GDR league season 1973/74 Hefter was used as a midfielder by coach Michael Lange, and so Hefter only scored five goals in his 20 appearances in 22 league games. In 1974/75 he had to play in defense and only missed a point game. Again he came up with five goals, with which this time BSG Chemie's top scorer. With the worst points account in their league relay, the Schwedter had to relegate after two years from the GDR league.

After only one season, Chemie Schwedt rose again as the sovereign district champion in the GDR league, with Hefter again becoming the team's top scorer with 25 of 68 goals. Hefter was a regular player in the following five GDR league seasons and only missed two of the 110 league games. For the 1977/78 season, the Schwedt petrolchemical combine took over the sponsorship of the BSG, which then appeared under the name BSG Chemie PCK. Hefter remained the BSG's top scorer with ten, eleven and two times twelve goals except for the 1978/79 season (four goals), in 1980 his twelve goals were also enough for the top scorer in league season B. In the first three seasons, Hefter was a midfielder until him Coach Josef Pellert used as a center forward from the 1979/80 season.

Hefter was nominated as team captain for the 1981/82 season, but was only used in the 14 league games of the first half of the season. In the last seven games he was called up again in the defense and only scored three goals. After the satisfactory 1982/83 season with 18 league games and seven goals, the now 34-year-old Wolfgang Hefter was no longer included in the team for the GDR league season 1983/84. Nevertheless, he was called up twice as a striker at the end of the season.

Hefter played his last GDR league game on April 15, 1984, the last game of the season. In the match between SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde and Chemie PCK, he was on the pitch as a center forward for 90 minutes after the 2-0 defeat. It was his 183rd GDR league game for the Schwedter BSG, for which he had scored 69 goals in these games.
