Wolfgang Nentwig

Wolfgang Nentwig (born September 6, 1953 in Koblenz ) is a German ecologist .

Nentwig studied biology at the University of Marburg from 1974 to 1979 and graduated with a diploma. He received his doctorate in 1981 on the dynamics of predator-prey systems , especially in spiders . In 1983/84 he was a visiting researcher at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. In 1985 he completed his habilitation in zoology. Since 1988 he has been a full professor of ecology at the Institute for Ecology and Evolution at the University of Bern .

  • Ecology of the agricultural landscape (set-aside, ecological compensation areas, promotion of beneficial insects, energy generation from plants)
  • Ecology of non-native and invasive species , biological control of pests and weeds, non-target effects of transgenic crops on soil organisms
  • Spider ecology, biochemistry, and ecology of spider venom
