Wolfgang Ernst Röken (born June 26, 1943 in Könnern ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1995 to 2010 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Life

After graduating from high school, Röken studied at the Ruhr University of Education in Essen . In 1966 he passed the state examination for teaching at elementary schools and was then employed as a teacher at the Johannesschule in Gladbeck from 1967 to 1968 . Then he was a teacher at the Gladbeck Middle-East secondary school until 1973 and then deputy principal until 1978. From 1978 to 1993 and then again from 1994 to 1995 he was principal at the Willy-Brandt-Schule (formerly Zweckel secondary school) in Gladbeck. From July to December 1993 he was managing director of VRR GmbH.

politics

Röken has been a member of the SPD since 1970 and was chairman of the SPD sub-district Bottrop from 1974 to 1975. From 1975 to 2000 he was chairman of the SPD city association in Gladbeck. He has been a member of the city council of Gladbeck since 1976 and was mayor of the city from 1976 to 1994 . From 1976 to 1993 he was a member of the Recklinghausen district assembly and during that time also a member of the KVR Association. From 1979 to 1993 he was parliamentary group leader of the SPD in the association assembly of the VRR association. From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the board of the North Rhine-Westphalia City Council. From 1995 to 2010 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, a full member of the sports committee and chairman of the committee for construction and transport. Together with Ms. Gisela Nacken , he has been Chairman of the NRW Public Transport Future Commission since 2012 .
