Wolfgang Sandt
Wolfgang Sandt (born August 12, 1960 in Munich ) is a German sculptor and author.
Education and career
After graduating from the technical college for design in Munich, Sandt completed an apprenticeship as a stone mason and stone sculptor, which he completed in 1995 with the title of master. Since 1985 he has worked with various sculptors, mainly on works in public spaces and in the sacred area. From 1987 to 2001 he worked in the creation and installation of the memorial for the satellite camp Ottobrunn of the Dachau concentration camp . Sandt works as a freelance artist and is a member of the FMDK (Free Munich and German Art Association) and the Ottobrunn Art Association.

In his artistic work, Sandt is primarily interested in the subject of transitoriness, in transitions, spaces in between, changes and the questioning of supposed security.
To represent this sculpturally, Sandt creates extremely fragile works made of stone: steles with predetermined breaking points, wafer-thin sculptures that seem to dissolve in light. Typical for Sandt are his house sculptures, small houses made of natural stone in all imaginable, unstable, precarious situations that reduce the idea of the house as a safe, protected place to absurdity.
Memorial for the Ottobrunn satellite camp of the Dachau concentration camp
Perhaps the most important work by Sandt is the memorial for the Ottobrunn satellite camp of the Dachau concentration camp. Sandt began work on the memorial in 1987. In 2001 it was finally erected in Ottobrunn after long political disputes.
