history

Wolfshöher Tonwerke GmbH & Co. KG is one of the oldest manufacturers of refractory products in Germany. Until it was founded, refractory bricks, which were needed on a large scale for the construction of furnaces, had to be obtained from England at very high prices. In 1856 the founder Lorenz Wolf came across traces of refractory clay on his way to Nuremberg, recognized his opportunity and founded a chamotte production on the Rollhofener Höhe .

In 1878 the work passed to his son Georg Wolf . He expanded the family business into a modern industrial company. In 1911 the three sons, Lorenz, Jakob and Georg Wolf , after completing their technical and commercial training, became involved in the company by founding "Wolfshöher Tonwerke GmbH".

After Wolfshöher Tonwerke had survived the difficult post-war years, the company benefited from the general economic upturn. Hubert Wolf , the only survivor of the fourth generation, joined Wolfshöher Tonwerke in 1949. In the mid-1960s, Georg Wolf , a representative of the fifth generation, also joined the company. Together they pushed the modernization process of the plant forward.

At the beginning of 1988, Hubert Wolf retired from the management due to illness and handed over the commercial management to Konrad Kügel . In September 2007 Georg Wolf handed over management to his daughter Ulrike Wolf . Konrad Kügel and Ulrike Kutscha-Wolf also continued to invest a lot in modernizing production and rely, among other things, on individual special machines.

In January 2017, with Carolin Kügel and Axel Wolf , two family members took over the management again and have held it to this day.
