Wolf killer

A wolf killer is a damper that is used on string instruments to suppress unwanted secondary tones ( wolf tones ).

functionality

The wolf killer consists of a small metal tube that is attached to the string piece between the bridge and the tailpiece with the help of a screw (see picture). In order not to damage the string, the tube is lined with rubber on the inside. Due to its inertia, the wolf killer dampens the vibration of the short string piece and thus (within certain limits) the wolf sound.
