A deed of donation dated June 24, 1361 to the Grafschaft monastery shows that the right to eat a field mill belonging to the Bilstein noblemen near Schmallenberg lay with the Harbeck farmers. The Harbeck tithe fell to the noble lords of Grafschaft as bailiffs of the Grafschaft monastery until 1444 . The farm was sold to the monastery abbey in February 1444. Early clues about the size of the place can be found in an appraisal register for the year 1543. According to this, there were four appraisers in “Härbecke”; the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time. In 1645 Harbeeck was mapped on the Westphalia Ducatus map.

Harbecke Chapel

Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Harbecke belonged to the municipality of Wormbach in the so-called Hawerland. Harbecke has been part of the town of Schmallenberg since January 1, 1975.

Ecclesiastically the village belongs to the Lenne municipality . Politically, however, Harbecke belongs to the community of Wormbach , so voting takes place in Wormbach.
