Mönekind is a district of the city of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The village is located around 13 km north of Schmallenberg on the border with the city of Meschede at an altitude of 515 m above sea level. The landscape protection area on the outskirts of Mönekind is located around the village .

history

"Monekehagen" was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1255. Early clues about the size of the place can be found in an appraisal register for the year 1543. According to this, there were four appraisers in "Moenkinck"; the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time. In 1817 there were 41 residents in the village.

Until the local reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Mönekind belonged to the municipality of Rarbach . Mönekind has been part of the city of Schmallenberg since January 1st, 1975 .

The chapel in the center of the village was built in 1673 in the Renaissance style. Patron saint is St. Margaretha.
