Hanxleden is a district of the city of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The village is about 6 kilometers north of Bad Fredeburg . The Rarbach flows through the Hanxleden . Neighboring places are Kirchrarbach , Föckinghausen and Dornheim . There is a sawmill and a small chapel in the village.

history

The place is the ancestral seat of the Westphalian noble family Hanxleden , whose main seat was Fredeburg Castle since 1343. Early clues about the size of the place emerge from an appraisal register for the year 1543. According to this, there were six persons required to be appraised in “Hanxleue”; the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time. Hanxleden belonged to the municipality of Rarbach until the local community reform . On January 1, 1975 the place became a district of the new town Schmallenberg.
