The small town is eight kilometers east of the core town of Schmallenberg on the B 236 . The Kleiner and Großer Bellmecke streams flow through the forest . They flow into the Waldsiepen stream .

history

The Vorwald estate was first mentioned in a document in 1590 under the name "Walthaus". In 1797, after two fires, the main building that still stands today was built. In 1895, according to the entry in the trade and business address book of the Province of Westphalia, 27 residents lived in the village of Vorwald. As part of the municipal reorganization , on January 1, 1975, the municipality of Oberkirchen with Vorwald was incorporated into the new town of Schmallenberg.
