Niederberndorf is a district of the town of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

location

The village is about 6 km west of Bad Fredeburg at the foot of the 527 m high Kohlhagen mountain at an altitude of 350 m above sea level. The Wenne flows through the village . In the center of Niederberndorf the Arpe flows into the Wenne. The nature reserve open land areas around Niederberndorf surrounds large parts of the village.

history

In 1645 Nederen Berentrup was mapped on the Westphalia Ducatus map. Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Niederberndorf belonged to the municipality of Berghausen. Niederberndorf has been part of the town of Schmallenberg since January 1st, 1975.

religion

There are two chapels in Niederberndorf. The St. Blasius Chapel , a listed church building in the center of the village, was first mentioned in 1402. The Maria Chapel is located in Berg Kohlhagen. The three ways of the cross from Niederberndorf, Mailar and Berghausen lead to the Maria Chapel.
