history
The rounded hill fort Kirchilpe probably dates from the Carolingian or Ottonian times. On March 15, 1366 sold Graf Gottfried IV. Of Arnsberg the noble lords of the county two courtyards and the church backs to Yfelpe (now Kirchilpe). The sale extended over the entire area including the church, the rectory and sexton's house, the two courtyards, a Kotten and the hill fort Kirchilpe which was south of the village. The small manor that once belonged to this castle was owned by the noblemen of Grafschaft until 1368, but since then it has again been owned by the Counts of Arnsberg and the Archbishops of Cologne, who bought the County of Arnsberg in 1368. In 1587 the parish was moved from Kirchilpe to Dorlar. The Kirchilper farmers paid their farm lease to the head winery in Arnsberg until the 19th century.
As part of the local reorganization, on January 1, 1975, the Dorlar community with the village of Kirchilpe was incorporated into the new town of Schmallenberg. In 2000, the remains of the early medieval hill fort Kirchilpe, threatened by erosion, were excavated.
