history

Dog sauces, B 236

Hundesossen was first mentioned in a document on December 13, 1297. Until the 15th century, Hundesossen was probably an isolated farm. Early clues about the size of the place can be found in an appraisal register (used to collect taxes) for the year 1543. According to this, there were four appraisers in “Hirndeßossenn”; the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time. At the end of the 16th century, dog sauce consisted of four farms. In the 18th century the place received a village bell (1730). Sixty years later, the Hundesossser steel hammer (1790) was built.

Hundesossen belonged to the municipality of Lenne as early as 1817 with its 95 inhabitants. In 1904 the residents built a small chapel in the village. As part of the municipal reorganization, which came into force on January 1, 1975, Hundesossen was assigned to the new town of Schmallenberg.
