Selkentrop is a district of the city of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The village is located around 5 km west-north-west of Schmallenberg near the L 737. The landscape protection area Offenlandkomplex Werntrop / Selkentrop / Felbecke is located around the village .

Neighboring places are Werntrop , Kückelheim , Arpe , Oberberndorf , Wormbach and Felbecke .

history

In 1284 the Wormbach parish bequeathed part of the tithe in Selkentrop to the Grafschaft monastery . Selkentrop was already a feudal estate of the Grafschaft monastery at this time. At that time there were only two farms in Selkenrop. In 1563 and 1602 seven farms in Selkentrop were mentioned in the treasury register . Until the local reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Selkentrop belonged to the municipality of Wormbach. Selkentrop has been part of the town of Schmallenberg since January 1st, 1975.

religion

The Selkentrop chapel was first mentioned in 1610. The chapel in need of renovation was demolished in 1760. Today the Blasius Chapel , built in 1769, is in the village . The altar with the painting comes from the parish church in Wormbach. In 1931 the altar with picture and all statues were renovated and repainted by the master painter Bergenthal from Oberschledorn.
