history

Accordingly, there were new appraisers in “Berchaußen”; the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time. In 1645 Berckhuse was mapped on the Westphalia Ducatus map. In the 20th century, the Schützenhalle (1929) and the school (1948) were built in Berghausen. In 2000 the kindergarten was built in the village.

Berghausen has been part of the town of Schmallenberg since January 1, 1975.

Church of St. Cyriacus Berghausen

In Berghausen there is the parish of St. Cyriakus with the church of the same name. The St. Cyriakus Church in the village was built around 1220.

The church is a characteristic Romanesque vault building on a compact floor plan and in heavy masonry. The three-aisled nave is 12 m wide and barely 8 m long; this short length is further reduced by the half-receding west tower for the central nave, so that the latter forms a single square, covered with bony cross vaults and opened towards the side aisles with double arcades (the pillars without a fight ).

The side aisles are only 2 m wide, the ceiling is half-ton with stitch caps, the transept has short wings and semicircular side apses, of which the northern one has been destroyed by the addition of the new sacristy . Square choir , semicircular apse with valuable Romanesque paintings. Inner and outer simple to the point of formlessness; Portal 1754, Vicarie 1715.

In the apse of the Romanesque cross basilica St. Cyriacus zu Berghausen, the ceiling painting shows Christ enthroned in a mandorla . The symbols of the four evangelists surround him.

At the top left the depiction of a man with wings, which symbolizes St. Matthew. The eagle at the top right stands for St. John; lower left the winged lion for St. Mark and lower right the winged bull for St. Luke.

To the left of Christ, who is holding an open book in his left hand, there is the symbol Alpha with a cross A-Church Berghausen.jpgon top and on the right side a small Omega with a cross on it Omega Berghausen.jpg, which is supposed to represent the universe, all beginning and all end.

Next to Christ stand on the left hand side Mary with open hands and John, and on the right side Peter with key and cross and next to him as the patron saint of the church St. Deacon Cyriacus .

Further images from the will can be seen throughout the sanctuary.

education

There is a primary school and a kindergarten as well as a Catholic library in the village.
