Oberberndorf is a district of the city of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The small village is about 5 km northwest of Schmallenberg . The becoming flows through the place. It flows into the Wenne at the entrance to the village . The nature reserve open land areas around Oberberndorf surrounds large parts of the village.

history

Henneke Knoche (Schulte zu Berndorf, free bishop and free lord of the states of Bilstein and Fredeburg) were mentioned several times in documents between 1437 and 1451. In 1536 the taxable population of Oberberndorf was recorded by name in the treasury register. In 1645 Over Beretrup was mapped on the Westphalia Ducatus map. In 1900, 83 people lived in nine houses in Oberberndorf.

Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Oberdorf belonged to the municipality of Berghausen . Since January 1, 1975, Oberberndorf has been part of the town of Schmallenberg.

In Oberberndorf there is a chapel from the 17th century. The patron saint of the chapel is the Apostle Thomas. In the years 1838/39 the chapel was completely renovated by the owners.
