history

Obringhausen (then still Oytbrechtinchusen) was first mentioned in a document in 1361. The place name changed over the years from Oberynckhusen to Obirdinchusen in 1398. In the same year today's Grobbel Hof (then Grotebeul von Obrinkhusen) was mentioned in a document. In 1515 the place was called Oberinghusen. In 1394 knight Ludorf von Altena sold the tithe to Oberynckhusen, whose liege was Johann von Graschapp , to the knight Rump zum Grevenstein. In 1446, Cord von Graschapp agreed to the sale of this tithe to the Grafschafter monastery .

Early clues about the size of the place can be found in an appraisal register (used to collect taxes) for the year 1543. According to this, there were 7 persons subject to appraisals in “Oberinghaußen”; the number should have agreed with the farms or houses that existed at the time. At the end of 1938 there were 51 residents in Obringhausen.

Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Obringhausen belonged to the municipality of Wormbach. Obringhausen has been part of the town of Schmallenberg since January 1, 1975.

religion

Antonius Chapel Obringhausen

There is a chapel in the village. Already in 1548 a Gerke Siebein zu Obringhausen was named as the carer of the Antonius Chapel. The chapel was rebuilt in 1620 following donations of land and donations from the villagers. In the years 1843 to 1848 there was a thorough renovation of the farm. The new building was not completed until 1877. In 1898, the cabinet maker Peter Schneider from Eslohe delivered a new altar.
