The Wallburg Kirchilpe is located on a hill of a steep slope around 400 m east of Kirchilpe . The round inner castle with a diameter of around 90 m probably dates from the Carolingian or Ottonian times. The main castle is surrounded in a semicircle by a moat and a bailey . At times the castle was owned by the Counts of Arnsberg with a small manor . Remnants of the hill fort were uncovered during excavations in 2000.
