Cloud Pirates is a book by the Canadian writer Kenneth Oppel , which is about the young aeronaut Matt Cruse. The novel was published by Beltz & Gelberg and paraphrased the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne . The work is the second part of a trilogy , the first volume of which is called Wolkenpanther and the third part is Star Hunter .

The 16-year-old student at the Aviation Academy Matt Cruse flies as an intern on the airship flotsam through The Devil's Fist , an almost constant typhoon over the Indian Ocean. The man in the lookout discovers the Hyperion Zeppelin , which has been missing for years . This belongs to the rich inventor and collector Theodore Grunel and is supposed to house gold and rare specimens from extinct animals. With his girlfriend Kate de Vries and the pilot Hal Slater he plans to recover the Hyperion . Since he is the only one who has the coordinates in his head, they come into competition with the air pirate John Rath.
