The Women's International Motorcycle Association - WIMA is a women's motorcycle association with national organizations worldwide.
The association's regular activities include the Pink Ribbon Rides . The proceeds will go towards the fight against breast cancer .
history
WIMA was founded in 1950 by Louise Scherbyn in the United States. WIMA was the first women's motorcycle organization.
From 1958 national organizations followed in Europe, starting from Great Britain (where Theresa Wallach became the first Vice-President of the organization), then the Netherlands and Germany. In Asia, Australia, where the organization was founded by Hazel Mayes, and Japan were the forerunners. In the former GDR an organization in the WIMA was not officially possible. GDR female motorcyclists had to use the WIMA meetings in the CSSR (1967, 1972 and 1979) and most recently in Hungary (1988).
As of 2018, 25 countries are covered by national WIMA agencies. This makes WIMA the oldest and largest women's motorcycle organization in the world.
organization
WIMA consists of a superordinate international organization. It is chaired by a female president and a vice-president. These are elected from among the members for a term of office of three years. Re-election is possible. Additional board members (officers) are appointed or elected as additional support.
So there are the roles:
- Treasurer (cashier)
- PR (public relations, public relations)
- Historian (archivist)
- Merchandising (promotional items)
- Webmaster (website administrator)
The current members of the WIMA Board of Directors can be found on the WIMA International website. The board of directors officially represents WIMA in the respective area of responsibility and has overarching functions. In addition to this, there is the committee of the national presidents: Resolutions that affect all WIMA member organizations in terms of organization and content are made in the committee of the national presidents.
purpose
The WIMA statutes provide for the advancement of women in the exercise of motorcycling.
WIMA International supports this through:
- Organization of annual international meetings (rallies) held by a national organization.
- Lobbying for motorcycles and women riding motorcycles in general

National associations support this through:
- The range of trainings,
- Collections (charity) to support initiatives related to women and motorcycles,
- Implementation of local events (national rallies, trips, parties, etc.),
- Participation in the annual international meeting (rally)
- Women's network in motorcycle sport including national lobbying and
- Contact for international WIMA members in transit.
