The Wood Group ( WG , actually John Wood Group ) is an internationally active British group of companies that provides services in the field of the development and exploitation of oil and gas deposits . The group in the legal form of a public limited company (PLC) is represented in 46 countries and had around 46,000 employees in 2013 (2007: 24,700). Sales in 2013 amounted to around 6.4 billion US dollars (2007: 4.4 billion). The Wood Group is headquartered in Aberdeen , Scotland.

history

The company was founded in 1982 by Sir Ian Wood as a spin-off from JW Holdings Ltd., the largest Scottish fishing company founded in 1956 by his father John Wood. In 1974, on the initiative of Ian Wood, in the course of the emerging oil production in the North Sea in the early 1970s, the company entered the business with services in the energy sector. From 2000 the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange and represented in the FTSE 100 Index (as of October 30, 2008). It is currently part of the FTSE 250 index . On October 9, 2017, the Wood Group completed the takeover of the plant manufacturer Amec Foster Wheeler .

The division deals with the establishment of the oil and gas fields for engineering work and production: development preparation, services related to ongoing exploitation, production increase, maintenance management.
