Amec Foster Wheeler (formerly Amec) is a British construction and plant engineering company headquartered in London .

The company is active in the traditional construction sector as well as in the construction of complex systems for oil and gas extraction and refining, energy systems and mining. It was listed on the London and New York stock exchanges and was listed in the FTSE 100 stock index , later in the FTSE 250 .

AMEC was formed in 1982 from a merger of the Fairclough Group (founded in 1883) and the William Press Group (founded in 1913). In 1988, AMEC acquired the Matthew Hall Group . The company Ogden Environmental & Energy Services . and AGRA, Inc. were acquired in 2000

In 2003, Amec took over the French industrial service provider SPIE . This was sold on to the investment company PAI partners in 2006 .

On November 13, 2014 Amec took over his Swiss rival Foster Wheeler for 3.13 billion US dollars and named thereafter in Amec Foster Wheeler to.

In March 2017, the Scottish John Wood Group announced plans to acquire Amec Foster Wheeler. The acquisition was completed on October 9, 2017.
