Wood Village

Wood Village is a city in Multnomah County in the US state of Oregon . According to the 2000 census , it had a population of 2860 in an area of ​​2.5 km². Despite the name, Wood Village is classified as a town.

history

In 1887, the English immigrants George and Hannah Shaw built a two-story farmhouse that is now used as a nursing home as part of the construction of the transcontinental rail link to the east. This house marks the place where Wood Village was to be built. Italian immigrant Stephen A. Arata acquired the house in 1907 and made it a stop on the railway line that became known as Arata Station .

In 1942, the Reynolds Aluminum Factory had a workers' settlement with 183 houses and 264 apartments, streets, shops, sewerage, sewage treatment plant, street lighting and a community building built here for their industrial settlement . In 1951, Wood Village was registered as a town. Donald L. Robertson Community Park opened in 2001.

As of the 2000 census, there were 2,860 people, 1,014 households and 701 families in the city. The population density was 1162.4 per km ². There were 1089 housing units registered at an average density of 442.6 per km².
