Worfel

The Worfel , also known as a grain swing, grain swing, tub or Liknon , is a simple agricultural device for separating particles.

Prehistoric grain cycle

The Worfel has the shape of a flat basket and works on the principle of air separation. Side handles and shovel shape make it easier for a human to winnow. This operation was carried out after threshing in order to remove the chaff and husks from the grain. The threshed grains were picked up with the winnowers and thrown into the air. Wind attacking from the side carries the unwanted, light chaff with it, the aerodynamically favorably shaped and heavier grain falls back cleaned into the basket.

In the open-air museum Hessenpark , which can experience the village life of former times, a Worfel is issued.

Further development

The rotary winnowing machine is a work-saving advancement.

For mechanically separating materials today are air classifier used unterschiedlichster design.
