World Cup (women's handball)
The World Cup is an annual handball tournament for women's national teams that has been held in Aarhus , Denmark since 2005 . It can be seen as a counterpart to the QS Supercup and Statoil World Cup for men.
At the World Cup women's eight best national teams take each part of the world: are invited every year, the reigning world and European champions and the last Olympic champions . The host country Denmark and its neighbors Sweden and Norway are permanent participants.
The sponsor has been the Danish insurance company GF-Forsikring A / S , after which the cup competition is currently called the GF World Cup .
Competition mode
The number of participants is eight teams. "Everyone against everyone" plays in two preliminary round groups. Placement games then take place:
- Either the first in the group fight for place 1 and 2 and the second for 3 and 4,
- or there are crossover semi-finals between the group first and second, followed by a small and a large final.
