World Music Charts Europe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Music Charts Europe is a monthly list of the 20 most frequently played international music titles from the field of world music . Chart lists from radio journalists from 25 European countries serve as the source . The non-profit organization of the same name behind the WMCE is based in Berlin . The running costs are borne by various sponsors, for example in 2009 by the WDR Funkhaus Europa .

The first charts from 1991 were compiled by only 11 countries with the assistance of the European Broadcasting Union . In the meantime (2010) 25 countries are involved. Each country can submit up to three chart lists, but these must come from different broadcasters. The 10 titles on the list are then evaluated and published.

Between 2006 and 2012, the World Music Charts Europe together with WOMEX awarded an annual prize for the most successful world music label.

The General Secretary of the World Music Charts is currently Johannes Theurer . The operation is carried out by the company Gift Music GmbH .
