World Organization of Workers

The World Organization of Workers (WOW) is an international trade union federation of national trade unions , the aim of which is to protect and promote workers' interests. WOW is based in Brussels (Belgium).

WOW is the successor organization of the World Federation of employees (WBA, World Federation of Clerical Workers, WFCW), which in September 1921 in Luxembourg was founded.

That was until 31 October 2006 Member of the World Confederation of Labor (WCL; World Confederation of Labor, WCL). After the WCL dissolved to get together with the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU, International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, ICFTU) to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC, International Trade Union Confederation, ITUC) to merge, decided the WCL as an autonomous, independent and international federation under the working name World Organization of Workers to continue working until the next congress.

The new name World Organization of Workers was finally decided during the first WOW congress on Malte on November 8th, 2008.

The WOW currently has 1.3 million members and brings together a total of 130 unions from over 60 countries.
