World Press Photo
The main aim is to support the work of professional press photographers. Over the years, World Press Photo has developed into an independent, internationally renowned platform for photojournalism . To achieve its goals, World Press Photo holds the world's largest press photography competition every year. The award-winning photos will be featured in a traveling exhibition seen by over one million visitors in more than 80 cities around the world. A yearbook with all award-winning entries will be published in six languages.
In addition to the exhibition program, World Press Photo deals with current developments in photojournalism. Funding projects are playing an increasingly important role: For example, seven times a year, seminars for photographers, photo agencies and picture editors are held in developing countries .
The annual press photo of the year is chosen in the photo competition organized by the foundation . The vote for the press photo of the year is considered the world's highest award among photographers.
This competition is the only one of its kind, in which photographers from all over the world participate. Every year, at the end of January, tens of thousands of press photos from freelance press photographers, press agencies , newspapers and magazines arrive at World Press Photo in Amsterdam . Submissions include all major news-related events from the previous year. In this respect, the competition is always a summary of current world events.
