Wormphlegm was a Funeral Doom project that had been active from 2000 to 2006 .

history

The band was founded in 2000 and was considered a first project by the tyranny musicians Lauri Lindqvist and Matti Mäkelä, who initiated Wormphlegm together using various pseudonyms. The project released the demo tape In an Excruciating Way Infested with Vermin and Violated by Executioners Who Practice Incendiarism and Desanctifying the Pious in 2001 as a one-piece music cassette . The version, limited to 100 copies, was soon supplemented by an unofficial CD-R version under the same title, and years later reissued several times as a long-playing record . In 2006, Tomb of the Ancient King was released via Painiac Records, the band's limited to 500 copies studio album. In the same year, the musicians finished the project. Both releases were positively received when they were released and subsequently gained a reputation as major classics of Funeral Doom.

style

According to the webzine Doom-Metal.com, the music played by Wormphlegem is ideally described as "Torture Doom". The band play “extremely slow and minimalist music with tortured screams and deep growling ” on the demo . The pace is “always slow, but occasional fast double-base drumming can also be heard.” According to a review written for the webzine Metal Crypt Wormphlegm carries "Tyranny's cultivated adoration of Thergothon in an even darker and crueler direction."
