Wovenit

Wovenit is the brand name for a patented textile manufacturing process that Visiotex GmbH brought onto the market in 1997. The made-up word arose from the English terms “woven” and “knit” (to knit).

A multi-layer textile for office chairs made with Wovenit was awarded the red dot award for product design in 2009.

Procedure

The process is based on the principles of single-faced stocking heels. Certain needles are inactivated in stages, with the loops on the inactivated needles remaining in the rest position. In a further step, the needles are reactivated step by step and the stitches are connected to the new stitches in the rest position. The meshes are therefore specifically reduced and increased again, creating a so-called gusset. This basic principle was transferred to an electronically controlled textile machine and supplemented with a patented process technology for inserting weft threads and / or warp threads .

The method combines the three textile manufacturing processes weaving , knitting , and knitting in one operation, and combines the well-known from the knitting art mesh with the processes known from the weaving weft and warp yarns . As a result, not only can different strengths and elasticities be defined, but complex woven knits can also be realized. Yarns of different fineness and from different raw materials can be processed, for example synthetic or natural fiber yarns, hybrid yarns, metal wire, light guides and leather threads. As the product comes out of the machine ready-made, reworking such as assembly is not necessary.

The process is also suitable for the manufacture of fiber composites and enables series production on an industrial scale. Fiber composite parts can be produced in almost any shape from different materials, thicknesses and densities. Application examples are seat covers, cladding elements, furniture covers, filter elements, fiber composite structures, insulation elements, battery boxes or body parts such as spoilers or sills.
