The wreck museum was a museum opened in Cuxhaven in June 1980 .

The wreck museum exhibited maritime pieces from ships that sank in the area of the German Bight , Ems , Weser and Elbe . The museum had about 1500 exhibits. The basis of the collection was the private collection of Peter Baltes. In 1978 the private collector showed them to the public for the first time in the exhibition From Sunken Ships in Cuxhaven. The city council then commissioned him to build the museum, which opened its doors in 1980.

The wreck museum has been closed since February 2013. At the beginning of December 2013 it was merged with the Cuxhaven Fisheries Museum to form the wind force 10 - Wreck and Fishery Museum Cuxhaven .
