Wulfersdorf (Harbke)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wulfersdorf was a municipality in the district of Neuhaldensleben in the Prussian province of Saxony , east of today's village of Büddenstedt in the city of Helmstedt . It was the first village in the Helmstedt brown coal area to give way to the Wulfersdorf open- cast brown coal mine .

The first written mention of the place is from 1160 as Vuluestorp . The population of Wulfersdorf in 1885 was 88 people. After it had fallen to 86 inhabitants in 1890, it rose to 118 people by 1919. In 1936 Wulfersdorf was incorporated into Harbke . In 1940 the demolition of Wulfersdorf began, in 1944 the inn, church and fire station fell victim to the demolition.

The Harbke opencast mine was opened up as early as 1909, and from 1936 onwards it became part of the Wulfersdorf opencast mine , to which the village fell victim. After a temporary shutdown, it was back in operation from the 1930s until after 1945. It was located between the villages of Harbke, Reinsdorf and (Neu) Büddenstedt. From 1945 it was crossed by the inner German border .
