The Empire Strikes First is the 13th studio album by the American punk rock band Bad Religion . It was released on Epitaph Records in June 2004 .
history
Brett Gurewitz and Greg Graffin produced the album from late 2003 to early 2004 in Sound City , Los Angeles . Under the impression of the Second Iraq War , the record was strongly socially critical - the title criticizes the corresponding Bush doctrine , which also included preventive wars. He satirically takes up the original English title of Episode V of Star Wars , The Empire Strikes Back . But other topics such as religion, media ( Los Angeles Is Burning ) are also addressed. The album contains several references to George Orwell's 1984 , most notably in the song. Boot Stamping on a Human Face Forever ; the title track and booklet refer to the "two minutes hate" introduced in Orwell's novel.
The album reached number 28 in Germany and number 40 in the USA.
