chronology
The New America ( 2000 ) The Process of Belief The Empire Strikes First ( 2004 )

The Process of Belief is the 12th studio album by the melodic hardcore band Bad Religion . It is the first studio album since Recipe for Hate to be released on the Epitaph Records label and the first with guitarist Brett Gurewitz , who left the band in 1994.

backgrounds

Aside from Brett Gurewitz's return, there was another line-up change for the band. After drummer Bobby Schayer left because of an injury, Brooks Wackerman sat on the drums for the first time at Bad Religion. This album marks a change of style back to fast and harmonious hardcore, as heard on No Control and Stranger Than Fiction . In terms of content, The Process of Belief deals with personal and interpersonal issues (in the song Broken ), but also social phenomena such as the ever faster pace of life in the western world (Supersonic) as well as political issues such as the US refusal to allow the Kyoto Protocol to be ratified (Kyoto Now!) .

reception

The album was mostly positively received by the fans, not least because of the return of Brett Gurewitz and the musical return to the faster punk rock of earlier days. In Germany, The Process of Belief reached number 13 on the album charts, bringing the band the best chart position since the album The Gray Race , which reached number 11 in 1996. The music video of the first single Sorrow was included in the rotation of the music channels and contributed to the success of the album. In the course of the tour for the album, Bad Religion also appeared on Rock im Park and Rock am Ring in 2002. In the US, The Process of Belief even reached number 49 and became the band's most successful album.

In an article in the music magazine Visions on the occasion of the release of the album New Maps of Hell in July 2007, The Process of Belief was described as follows:

'The Process of Belief' wasn't just the comeback at home, it was the perfect Bad Religion album. Hard harmonies, sophisticated mid-tempo songs, a few small experiments and a lyrical universe between Gurewitz's personal reflections and Graffin's sermon on science. The dry spell was over. "(Visions No. 173, p. 90)

In a review in the online music database from 2009, it is said that with this album Bad Religion "averted the path to insignificance in an impressive way". There The Process of Belief received 9 out of 10 points.
