The Kornharpen central garbage dump is a landfill in Bochum-Kornharpen . 12.6 million tons of garbage were deposited in it. The operator is the USB Umweltservice Bochum .

In 1978 the central landfill in Bochum was opened. Originally there was a valley with loamy subsoil that was filled with rubble. Before that, the Caroline mine was located here . The Karolinenbach was piped up and used as a sewer for the landfill.

The landfill was closed in 2009. Today the landfill is in the aftercare phase and has not yet been opened to the public. 30,000 cubic meters of gas are produced daily in the garbage dump. The landfill gas will be burned in the Kornharpen combined heat and power plant until 2025. Further rubble deposits and ash from waste incineration serve to compensate for subsidence. The fence around the landfill will remain in place until at least 2060. The height of the landfill is expected to be around 150 m above sea level.

Among the new projects a 2.2 one hectare large photovoltaic plant in the southwestern part of the heap. The 10,400 modules deliver a total of 800 kW p ; the construction costs amounted to 2.4 million euros.

Federal motorway 40 runs north of the landfill, and federal motorway 43 runs east .
