Wax wool

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wax wool is an oil binding agent made by Deurex from Zeitz , which is sold under the trade name Deurex Pure. In the press it is sometimes referred to as magic floss or miracle floss .

General

This oil binding agent is a special wax that absorbs oil , but not water .

history

The invention of wax wool was more a coincidence than targeted research. When setting up a machine, an employee swapped values and the machine ran unobserved overnight. The incorrect settings were only discovered the next morning, and the machine was covered with fine wax fibers. These wax fibers were examined and the Deurex Pure was developed from them.

Possible use

Because wax wool only binds oil, but not water, it is well suited for binding oils from leaky ships. It can also be used to bind the oil leaking from wind turbines .

European Inventor Award 2017

In June 2017 Günter Hufschmid won the European Inventor Award for the invention of the oil binding agent wax wool. The prize is awarded annually by the European Patent Office .
