Throwing wheel in action

A throwing wheel is a water lifting machine that consists of a wheel with several blades on the periphery.

Throwing wheels can be rotated around a horizontal axis and move in a goiter channel . When they rotate rapidly, they hurl the water from the lower part of the goiter into a higher channel.

They were used extensively in Holland for draining lowlands , where they were set in motion by windmills . Throwing wheels have a maximum delivery height of 1.5 m.

The bucket wheel acts more calmly than violently .
