The former museum building

The Stanisław Wyspiański Museum in Kraków was opened on November 28, 1983 in the residential building at 9 Kanonicza Street as a branch of the Kraków National Museum . The artist Stanisław Wyspiański lived on the same street for eleven years. As early as 2002, the museum had to be closed due to the ownership claims of the Krakow diocese . In 2004–2012 the museum was located in the Szołayski House on Szczepański Square.

The collections of the Wyspiański Museum included: a. the unexecuted designs for stained glass windows for the Kraków Wawel Cathedral , which the artist handed over to the National Museum in 1901. In 1920 Wyspiański's works from the collection of the art lover Felix “Manggha” -Jasieński were added.

The collection was considered to be the largest in Poland. In addition to the pictures (mainly pastel paintings), designs for the glass windows of the Kraków Franciscan Church and the Medical Center, stage sets, furniture ( designed for Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński , among others ) as well as photographs and small items from the family collection are shown.
