The XMobots Apoena 1000 is an unmanned aerial vehicle from the Brazilian manufacturer XMobots .

History and construction

The Apoena is the first drone developed by XMobots . It is available in two versions: on the one hand the Apoena 1000 with a range of 1000 km and on the other hand the Apoena 3000 a model with a larger span and a range of 3000 km. Work on the machine began in 2007 and the first flight took place on November 18, 2008. The UAV is a small monoplane made of wood and composite materials. Various tail unit models were tested on the prototype, such as a downward-pointing rudder with straight elevators (called Apoena B ) or a downward-pointing rudder with a positive V-tail (see photo of the prototype opposite). The production models have a negative V-tail. The wings are mounted at the bottom of the fuselage and have winglets at the ends. The machine has a retractable main landing gear that folds backwards, while the tail wheels are firmly attached to the tail units. In addition, the drones can carry a payload of 10 or 26 kg. They are driven by a 3.7 kW two-stroke engine or a four-stroke engine with 2.60 kW (details of the engines are not known) that drove a pulling propeller. The machines need a runway, but can either be landed normally or by parachute.
