XY gang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The XY gang was a criminal organization that organized drug trafficking and illegal gambling in and around Neuruppin in Brandenburg from the 1990s to 2005 .

The gang was named after its identification symbol, the sequence of letters OPR-XY on the license plates of their high-quality black cars.

history

The gang was founded between 1994 and 1997 as a strictly hierarchical organization. She was a gang trafficker in cocaine and marijuana . She operated bribery and illegal gambling in "mafia-like structures". With the profits, the gang members bought the same heavy seal rings, expensive cars and real estate in Neuruppin.

The gang leader Olaf Kamrath developed from a sausage seller to Neuruppin's “godfather” within a few years. He acted as a city redeveloper, football club president (Union Neuruppin) and party sponsor and even became a city council representative for the CDU . The gang met at the Blue Banana Club . Kamrath described everything as a "big family". The mafia- like structures included connections to the town hall and the police as well as a lawyer, couriers, the boss of the Neuruppin property office and an employee in the Neuruppin trade supervisory office. Local greats from Neuruppin met regularly to play illegal games with the gang leader.

The gang is said to have "made a profit of 1.4 million euros".

In August 2004, over 200 police officers stormed various buildings in Neuruppin, including the town hall. More than a hundred people were investigated and several of them were immediately arrested.

In 2005 the trial began before the Neuruppin Regional Court . Olaf Kamrath was sentenced to twelve years in prison in 2006, his two main accomplices to terms of between three and nine years. Two gang members went on appeal before the Federal Court of Justice, but without success. The trial against the XY gang represents the largest trial against organized crime in East Germany to date .

aftermath

After the 2004 raid, further corruption scandals became known. The gang earned the city the nicknames "Little Palermo" and "Korruppin".
