Xabier Prieto Argarate (born August 29, 1983 in Donostia-San Sebastián ) is a former Spanish football player who spent his entire career at Real Sociedad in the Spanish Primera División .

Player career

Xabi Prieto started his career as a footballer in his hometown with the traditional Basque club Real Sociedad . He made his professional debut in the 2003/04 season. The midfielder quickly rose to become a regular. In his first season he scored two goals in eleven games. In the following year it ran 23 times. His breakthrough came in 2005-06 when he scored nine goals in 38 games. This season he was used in every game.

Despite relegation in 2006/07, Xabi Prieto stayed with his hometown club. However, Prieto achieved promotion again with San Sebastian in the 2009/10 season and has since played in the Primera Division. In 2014 he reached fourth place in the table with his club and was able to qualify for the Champions League. This succeeded with two wins against Olympique Lyon , in the following group stage, however, Prieto was eliminated with San Sebastián. In 2018 he ended his active career.
