Xavier Kretz

François Xavier Kretz (* 1830 ; † 1889 ) was a French engineer. He was chief engineer of the state-owned manufactories in France (Manufactures de l'État).

From 1850 to 1852 he studied at the École polytechnique . He taught mechanical engineering at the École d'Application des Manufactures d'État and was an engineer at the Service Central des Constructions.

In 1876 he received the Poncelet Prize . He was editor of the later editions of the Introduction à la mécaniqueindustrie, physique ou expérimentale and the Cours de mécanique appliquée aux machines by Jean-Victor Poncelet .
