Xbalché
Xbalché , also Balché , is a smaller Mayan site on the Mexican peninsula of Yucatán in the state of the same name.
location
The Mayan site of Xbalché is surrounded by bush forest about 80 km southeast of Mérida , about halfway between the places Huhí and Sotuta at an altitude of about 12 m above sea level. d. M.
history
Xbalché is one of the archaeological sites of the Puuc region . The poorly elaborated roof decorations on the buildings on the ground floor are always unadorned and suggest that they were built in the 7th century. In the 9th century at the latest, perhaps even earlier, the place was probably left by its residents.
During the late post-classical period, however, Balché may have been partially inhabited again and belonged to the Cuchcabal Hocabá .
buildings
The approx. 7 known palace buildings ( palacios ) are only slightly raised compared to the surrounding area; one shows a facade design with simple monolithic columns and square fighters . A temple pyramid is not known.
