Xenisthmidae
The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.
The Xenisthmidae ( Gr .: xenos = strange, rare; isthmia , - on = neck, neck) are a family of marine goby-like fish that occur in the Indo-Pacific according to a traditional system .
features
They are very small, only 1.95 to 3 cm long, with an elongated body and an upper mouth. The outer edge of the lower lip is free. The fish have six Branchiostegal rays . A rudimentary elevation of the premaxillary is present or is completely absent.
Systematics
According to a molecular biological study, the Xenisthmidae are part of the sleeper gobies (Eleotridae).
